Gwinear Lakes FOL
Our annual Feast of Lanterns (FOL) arrived this weekend blessed with rather unseasonal weather, bright and sunny, very light winds and few clouds to block the sun. The theme, Movie Date Night.
As we arrived we all drew raffle tickets from a hat and this determined where we would pitch. Nice to do something different.
The site has huge pitches with hard standing, a fully heated amenities block and two fishing lakes. There’s an enclosed dog walk and a longer walk around the bigger lake for the more adventurous.
FOB
On Saturday yours truly and Rich cooked luscious bacon rolls for those that wanted them.
The treasurer did remind me that the wind direction must be taken into account so that bacon smells didn’t drift and cause campers to experience hunger pangs. I crowed and ordered the light breeze to head west.
After the FOB (Feast of Bacon), we settled down, chatted with friends, walked our pooches as we waited for the second event of the day…. An American supper, which was really a surprise birthday party for Clare T.
At 14:30 we all assembled, with everybody attending bringing a plate of food. It was a fabulous get together. Well done to Rich and Ali for organising the event. Clare certainly had a good time!
Feast of Lanterns.
We all then set about decorating our vans with lights and other paraphernalia, based on the theme, Movie Date Night. Thanks to all who took part in creating a raft of different presentations.
As darkness descended, we had an absolutely amazing sunset to start off the evening displays and soon the site was a blaze of lights and as is customary, we all wandered around looking at some incredible displays.
Ron was asked to judge the displays and after a few beers and a conflab, he said the winners, were Steve and Mel H. He admitted it had been a tough job, but there has to be a winner.
Sunday departure.
There was no rush to get away, and the sunny weather allowed us all to pack away in the dry.. that’s always a bonus.
Finally, a huge thanks to Rich and Ali for a great weekend.
Next weekend is a new site at Sourton which opens at 13:00 with Chris and Clare as your stewards.
